Flick&Click™, an assembly with one-click

The tool-free furniture assembly technology was created to eliminate the need to connect individual body elements with screws and tools. Thanks to specially profiled connections, these elements can be adjusted manually and connected with the so-called ‘click’.

What does this solution offer to producers and consumers? First of all, the ease of assembly, which can take place both in the factory and at the customer’s home. In the latter case, both the seller and the buyer benefit from lower shipping costs, limited by the smaller dimensions of the unfolded furniture. Flick&Click™ technologies are also characterized by a wide range of applications, which makes it possible to base any collection of furniture on this solution.

Types of joins: 45° and CORNER90

In our plant, we carry out orders for profiles in the Flick&Click™ technology in two versions. How are they different from each other?

Joining M-45° is definitely a more designer solution, very effective when it comes to the aesthetics of the finish. It connects the corners at an angle of 45° and is divided into two types:

• 5G in 4 corners for a product dedicated for self-assembly by the end customer,
• 5G in 1 corner and the use of the folding method and assembly glue in the others, for quick assembly both in a furniture factory and by the final recipient (in the case of small-sized furniture).

CORNER90 allows not only the assembly of furniture bodies, but also their quick and tool-free disassembly. It connects the corners at an angle of 90°. The visual effect of the connection is slightly different than in the case of the M-45°, but this solution is widely used in the design of living room, bedroom, office, bathroom and children’s furniture, as well as kitchen drawers and bodies.

In addition, this connection has been enriched with the possibility of using a latch in the rear walls, which increases the stiffness of the furniture. Latches can also be used on drawer bottoms, making them stronger and avoiding the known problem of the drawer bottom falling off.

Flick&Click™ technology – who is it for?

Tool-free furniture assembly is an innovative solution that, thanks to its functionality, time saving and cost reduction, will be appreciated by an increasing number of furniture manufacturers. At the moment, we are implementing projects of many companies that have already noticed its advantages and want to implement them in their new collections. At the same time, we are constantly educating and promoting this technology of the future.

The market must be shaped in terms of changing opportunities – says Melaco’s Vice President, Dariusz Piotrowski. – These solutions are still very new, very innovative, little known. It is not the main stream used in the furniture industry, so in our activities we try to make customers aware of its existence and show them the possibilities it offers. However, it is a very long process. Entering the market with these products, reaching the customer, convincing them and then adapting their capabilities to this technology – each step takes time and nothing happens overnight.

So who can benefit the most from Flick&Click™? As Dariusz Piotrowski argues, the best chance appears when designing new products.

It is always risky and costly to change products that are already functioning, especially when they’re functioning well. However, when creating a new project, a new product, there is also a good time to apply new solutions. At the moment, we are talking to producers who know this technology and we are already receiving signals that they are working on projects that will allow for its implementation.
