M.O.W. – The most important meeting place for the furniture industry
Every year, the M.O.W. trade fair brings together nearly 400 exhibitions from more than half a hundred countries. It is not only the heart of the furniture market in German-speaking countries, but also an important point on the map of the European industry. This includes our Partners, for whom the event provides an excellent opportunity to present their innovative collections, created using our advanced technologies.
M.O.W. attracts both exhibitors and a wide range of visitors – from industry representatives to consumers in search of innovative and functional furniture. For us, it is not only an opportunity to explore the latest trends and developments in the industry, but also a place where we can engage in valuable discussions and meet other players in the market.
As always, we looked here for inspiration and visited our Partners, and here’s what caught both our eye and the gazes of other attendees at the event.

MICRO MILLING™ fronts – our project
Let us start with a projest, i.e. furniture fronts made for our Partner, the HELD company, which presented this product during the fair. These are fronts with a slat wall structure made in the advanced MICRO MILLING™ technology and using COMPLETE SKIN boards covered with foil in the WOTAN OAK pattern. If you are a furniture manufacturer and are looking for a way to stand out in the market, these solutions are for you for two reasons:
- The first is MICRO MILLING™ technology. Thanks to Alphacam’s specialised software, it combines precision and creativity, enabling even the most complex designs to be realised. But that’s not all. In addition to aesthetics, it also offers unparalleled durability. Laminating with a high-quality polymer film makes the surfaces resistant to water and elevated temperatures.
- The second reason is the COMPLETE SKIN boards and ribbons. These furniture components are synonymous with durability and versatility. They use MDF or chipboard and are glued with low-emission modern PUR adhesives of the new generation. What’s more, the edges of these components can be finished using postforming technology, which adds to their elegance. Heat and moisture resistance make these boards ideal for a variety of applications, from kitchen to office furniture.
Combined, these two technologies create products that not only look stunning, but are also functional and durable. A true inspiration for anyone looking to enhance the quality of their furniture range.
The slat wall effect – a trend that is not going away
The slat wall effect is a trend that is making a comeback in the industry, in many interesting ways, confirming that this classic is still finding a place in the hearts of consumers. Our attention was drawn to slat wall panels. Their timeless elegance and the warm colour of the wood bring a unique atmosphere and cosiness to the interior, while the product itself ensures convenient and easy installation.
Melaco has advanced technologies at its disposal to help achieve a similar effect, including the aforementioned MICRO MILLING™ technology and our MELAFOL production line. Thanks to our solutions, furniture manufacturers have the opportunity not only to follow trends, but also to create them. This is an excellent opportunity for those who want to surprise the market with new, but at the same time proven and consumer-appreciated solutions.
We also support our partners in the implementation of new solutions, among which are decorative wall panels. You can read more about this in the entry: Create decorative wall panels with Melaco. Explore our technological possibilities →
Matt effect appreciated for its appearance and functionality
When it comes to finishes for boards and furniture fronts, the matt effect is a recurring trend, and this solution was presented by exhibitors in various versions. We welcome this trend, as it ties in with our innovative PREMIER MATT finish, which we have just extended with several new colour variants.
We use the PREMIER MATT finish on both furniture boards from the COMPLETE SKIN collection and furniture fronts from MELAFOL. It is a deep matt effect with a low light reflectance (2-3), achieved through advanced PST (Physical Surface Treatment) technology. The surface is perfectly smooth and resistant to damage. Thanks to the anti-fingerprint effect, it is extremely easy to clean and minor scratches can be eliminated under heat.
The PREMIER MATT collection has recently been enhanced with new colours. They are now available in shades such as Black, Oria Blue, Highland Green, Stone Grey, Premium White, Snow White, Craft, Dark, Blue, Still and Clay, Black. This gives furniture manufacturers even more options in creating ranges that cater for a variety of customer tastes and needs.
Finishes that catch the eye
Although minimalism is a persistent, universal trend, manufacturers are not forgetting the audience that wants to enjoy unique furniture with expressive surfaces. Such solutions were also presented by the exhibitors, not only in terms of bold, eye-catching colours, but also in terms of shapes, forms and unusual patterns.
If this is the direction that interests you and you want to create a furniture collection that is different from all the others, at Melaco we offer a wide range of options for those who want to go in this direction. From unusual, vibrant colours and patterns for the surface finishes of the boards and fronts, to a variety of finishes such as the aforementioned MICRO MILLING™ technology or the new FOREST finish.
We also offer several novelties, such as the metallic boards in hammered copper and brushed gold or the STAR DUST collection in a matt finish with glitter flecks, available in several attractive colour variants. You can read more about them in the entry: Discover the novelties in the COMPLETE SKIN collection. New PREMIER MATT colours, metallic textures and stardust effect →
Modular furniture – practicality and flexibility
Modular furniture is another trend that was widely presented at M.O.W. No wonder, as this type of product offers many advantages, not only for consumers themselves, but also for furniture manufacturers. The former can enjoy the flexibility to arrange their interiors and adapt the furniture to the space at their disposal and to their own needs. They can assemble the furniture themselves, which in turn allows manufacturers to reduce the price of the furniture due to the savings associated with the elimination of this production step, as well as the lower cost of shipping.
Modular furniture is not only a response to changing consumer needs and expectations, but also a way for manufacturers to become more competitive in the market.
If you manufacture or sell furniture and have not yet explored this direction or want to offer your customers a fresh new solution, we can help. Inspiring meetings in a challenging atmosphere
As always, the M.O.W. trade fair is a great source of inspiration and a place where the furniture industry has the opportunity to meet, exchange experiences and make new contacts. Interestingly, this year many well-known companies that can regularly be found at the fair decided not to participate, which only emphasises how dynamically the market is changing.
The fair was therefore not only an opportunity to see what is new in the industry, but also to understand what challenges furniture manufacturers are facing. Faced with declining order volumes and downward pressure on prices, furniture manufacturers are being forced to find new and creative ways to capture their customer’s attention. We hope that following trends and setting new directions using modern technology will help them to do so, and this is exactly how we want to support furniture manufacturers.
