Basic criteria for selecting furniture boards
When choosing furniture boards for your projects, always check the technical specifications and requirements of the project. This is the key to creating furniture collections that will survive years of heavy use. Below are the most important criteria you need to pay attention to when selecting components that will be suitable for your planned furniture collections.
- Base material
– MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) – characterized by a uniform structure, smooth surface and ease of processing. Ideal for high-gloss and supermatte finished boards, and for precision milling (e.g. COMPLETE SKIN furniture ribbons with profiled Postforming edges). The MDF MR variant increases moisture resistance, which works well in bathrooms and kitchens, among other applications.
– Particleboard, on the other hand, is a cheaper alternative, with a lower density (~650 kg/m³), but sufficient properties to create furniture bodies. The use of P3 particleboard ensures the stability of the furniture in conditions of increased humidity.
- Production technology
– HOT MELT LAMINATION is an innovative method of laminating PET/PP/PVC films with PUR adhesives, which is used by Melaco, among others. This type of solution eliminates the risk of coating peeling off even when exposed to temperatures of up to 180°C.
– The PUR adhesive system guarantees resistance to moisture and deformation, as confirmed by tests in accordance with EN 438-2 (scratch resistance: 1-1.5 N).
- Certificates
– FSC® is a certification that confirms the sourcing of wood from responsibly managed forests. Melaco has been using only raw materials with this designation since 2014.
– Low formaldehyde emissions – we offer boards in E1 standard, and with reduced emissions of E0.5.
Resilience – a key parameter in practice
The resilience of furniture boards is one of the most important parameters that determine their use in various spaces – from kitchens and bathrooms to offices and commercial facilities. For this reason, it is worth carefully checking the technical documentation of the selected furniture components to ensure that the materials used will be suitable for the production of the planned collections.
COMPLETE SKIN furniture boards from Melaco offer exceptional durability, increased resistance to moisture (PW-P3 and MDF-MR class) and high temperature (up to 180°C). This makes them ideal for demanding conditions. In addition, surfaces such as Premier Matt are distinguished by their scratch resistance (1-1.5 N according to EN 438-2) and anti-fingerprint properties, making them an ideal choice for intensively used spaces. Furniture boards with such characteristics can maintain aesthetics and functionality for years, regardless of the space or type of furniture.

Aesthetics vs. functionality – a review of COMPLETE SKIN furniture board finishes
When choosing furniture boards, it is also worth paying attention to the available range of finishes. In this case, Melaco boasts a wide range of not only colors, but also 3D structures or designer reflective surfaces.
Manufacturing flexibility – why does it matter?
Manufacturing flexibility allows manufacturers to respond quickly to changing market needs and customer demands. Thanks to advanced technologies such as process automation and the ability to personalize dimensions and finishes, production lines can adapt to fulfill both large series and small, individual orders. The ability to make modifications without production downtime also translates into greater efficiency and cost reduction. In the furniture industry, this flexibility makes it possible to create a variety of products – from standard furniture collections to unique designs – giving manufacturers a competitive advantage and allowing them to meet the expectations of even the most demanding premium customers.
Melaco offers B2B customers:
- Option of supplying belts of the customer’s intended dimensions.
- Production of finished formats according to manufacturers’ guidelines (reducing production time and minimizing waste).
- Postforming, i.e. the possibility of profiling edges for finishes with smooth shapes.
