How the pandemic motivated us to act - an interview with Dariusz Piotrowski, Vice President of Melaco

What should we do to operate in troubled and unpredictable times of a pandemic? Roll up our sleeves and start projects that meet the changing needs of customers. This is what we did at Melaco, and we are ending the year with several new product lines and new directions of development. How did it happen? Read the interview with Dariusz Piotrowski, Vice President of the company.

What’s the atmosphere in Melaco at the end of the year?

We’re closing the year with optimism. We have ideas, we have defined what actions we will take at the beginning of the new year. We see the future in bright colors.

You had to adjust to a new pandemic reality. Have you come up with solutions that will stay with Melaco for longer?

We made some changes to the way our company works. Instead of waiting for Melaco products to be verified by the market, we try to improve them as we go, we also have completely new products in our portfolio. The pandemic caused many customers to change their supply chains or production programs. Having ready solutions, we are able to submit attractive proposals to our clients. Thanks to this, establishing cooperation is possible even when there are no appropriate market conditions and standard goods are no longer popular.

We have also changed our view of marketing, which – unlike in previous years – we have transferred quite strongly to the web. We have partnered with Reprezentuj , which is already producing first results. Although we have been on the market for 27 years, representatives of completely unknown companies reach us now. This gives Melaco access to new markets, new contractors and generates completely new ideas.

Instead of waiting for Melaco products to be verified by the market, we try to make improvements as we go, and we also have completely new products in our portfolio. Due to the pandemic situation, many customers changed their supply chains and production programs. Having ready solutions, we are able to submit attractive proposals to our clients.

Let’s talk about the new lines you created. Can you name the three most outstanding products or technologies?

Our DESIGN SOLUTIONS ™ decorative panels should definitely be emphasized. We acquired the production license from Valigne Innovations AB two years ago. The pandemic motivated Melaco to accelerate work on the implementation of the product, which has finally been released. Currently, there are nearly 20 locations where decorative panels can be purchased. We are proud of this achievement and it is definitely worth paying attention to.

Then – new PREMIER MATT finishing products, which we offer both for Melaco COMPLETE SKIN furniture boards and for MELAFOL fronts. It is a completely new look at surface finishing, highly rated for its aesthetic value, resistance and quality of the final effect. We currently have a lot of clients interested in this type of solution.

The product which is based on the FLICK&CLICK technology awarded with the Diamond of Furniture, i.e. HOME OFFICE Select, is worth mentioning. It is also the winner of this year’s edition of this prestigious competition. It was the pandemic situation that motivated us to produce the set. We know that many people, including schoolchildren and students, have switched to work in a home office mode, where convenience and functionality are now a priority. At the moment we have to work to make HOME OFFICE Select fully refined and most available on the market.

Awards

How do you react to nominations or won competitions? Is this important for Melaco?

Rewards are very important because they oblige us and motivate us to continue working. The awareness of the achievements so far and the awards received does not allow us to let go, even when we are temporarily discouraged (laughs). At least thanks to this, we understand that we need to work even more intensively on the availability and recognition of our products.
