Łukasz, it’s been nine years since you joined us as a milling machine operator. Has this always been your role at Melaco?
Not at first. In the first few years I got to know practically all the machines in the factory, but I just stopped at the milling machines and that’s where I’ve been ever since.
Why milling machines?
I finished vocational school as a lathe operator and it suits me. I wasn’t afraid of machines, which is also important in this job. Here I’m working with wood, I learned on metal, but the principle is similar.
You have worked in various industries and this is your second time at Melaco. Why did you decide to come back here?
My career is quite long, I started as a mechanic in an egg powder factory, then there was a big car factory. Then I worked here for two years and after a break, I came back. Probably the most important reason why I decided to work at Melaco again was the fact that I was given the time I needed to learn and settle in. This was lacking in previous companies. Here I was able to prepare for tasks at my own pace and I had a team to support me.
Now that Melaco is celebrating its 30th anniversary, what are your thoughts on the changes the company has gone through? Do you feel that we have emerged unscathed from the recent crises?
Everyone has certainly been affected by the crisis, not just Melaco, but the most important thing is that the company has survived despite the difficulties. This is a success story. We’re still here, we’re still working, the prospects are good and may it continue for a long time.
What would you like to wish Melaco on its anniversary this year?
Another 30 years in the market. I think it’s hard to go on nowadays, there are many threats and challenges, so I just wish that the company will continue to exist and face the challenges with the same efficiency as before.
How about you? Have there been any new challenges in these nine years or do you always do the same thing?
Of course, there are new challenges. A master, a technologist comes in and we try new things, we innovate. We make 2-3 items at a time and send them to people who might be interested. Then these people decide whether we introduce the innovation.
There have been a few things we have been able to do, like new profiles, the V-pipe for instance. There are also some new products that sell very well, like 800-1000 pieces per order. That’s quite a lot. We did them on a trial basis, and now they’re going in bulk. It’s a nice feeling when an idea becomes a concrete product. Somebody thinks of something, I help make it and then it goes into sales.
That’s fantastic, Łukasz. Your experience and determination are invaluable to our company. Thank you for your contribution and we look forward to working together. May the coming years bring even more success.
